Psychiatry that considers the whole person.
Psychiatry can be a helpful part of mental health care, but deciding whether it is right for you should feel thoughtful, collaborative, and informed.
Our psychiatry and medication management services provide a space to explore your symptoms, concerns, treatment goals, and options with a psychiatric provider who takes the time to understand the larger context of your life. We recognize that mental health does not exist separately from our relationships, identities, cultures, bodies, histories, communities, and environments.
Whether you are considering medication for the first time, looking for ongoing medication management, or wanting a fresh perspective on your current treatment, our goal is to help you make decisions that feel informed and aligned with your needs.
Our psychiatrist offers a space to explore a variety of topics including but not limited to:

What We Can Help With
Psychiatric services may be helpful for individuals experiencing concerns related to:
– Anxiety and persistent worry
– Depression and mood changes
– Trauma-related symptoms
– ADHD and difficulties with attention, concentration, or executive functioning
– Sleep concerns
– Emotional regulation
– Panic symptoms
– Obsessive or intrusive thoughts
– Stress and adjustment-related concerns
– Other mental health symptoms that may benefit from psychiatric evaluation or medication support
You do not need to know exactly what is happening or arrive with a diagnosis before scheduling an appointment. Part of the psychiatric evaluation process is helping you better understand what you are experiencing and discussing appropriate treatment options.

Medication Management
If medication becomes part of your treatment plan, follow-up appointments allow you and your provider to evaluate how things are going over time.
These appointments may include discussing:
– Changes in symptoms or functioning
– How you are responding to medication
– Side effects or concerns
– Medication adjustments when appropriate
– Questions about your treatment
– Changes in your health, stressors, or circumstances
– Whether continuing, changing, tapering, or discontinuing medication should be considered
Medication management is not simply about renewing prescriptions. It is an ongoing conversation about whether your treatment continues to support your goals.

Psychiatric Evaluations
Your initial appointment is an opportunity for your provider to get a fuller picture of what has been going on.
Your provider may ask about your current symptoms, mental health history, medical history, previous medications, sleep, daily functioning, relationships, family history, substance use, current stressors, and other factors that may be relevant to your care.
From there, you and your provider can discuss recommendations and decide together what makes sense as a next step.
*A psychiatric evaluation does not automatically mean that you will be prescribed medication.

Therapy + Psychiatry
Mental health care does not always fit neatly into separate boxes.
For clients receiving therapy through Diaspora Therapy Group, psychiatry can be incorporated into your existing care when appropriate. With your consent, your psychiatric provider and therapist can collaborate to support a more connected understanding of your treatment.
You do not need to be a current therapy client to receive psychiatry or medication management services with us.
If you already have a therapist outside of Diaspora, we can also coordinate care with them when clinically appropriate and with your written permission.
