About Me

Hi! I’m Amara, and I identify as a queer Black American. As a trained EMDR therapist, my approach to therapy is grounded in a trauma-informed, multicultural, somatic, and anti- oppressive lens. Meaning, I recognize distressing lived experiences like chronic tension, burnout, and debilitating anxiety as what they are – reactions to a world forcing you to shrink and adapt to their rules. My intention in our work together is to support you in tuning into and expressing your voice and truths.

My areas of focus include exploring intergenerational and chronic/complex trauma, life transitions and stressors, depression, anxiety, and relational concerns. Specifically, I support clients in exploring unhealthy parent-child dynamics. I work with adult children who experience or have experienced conflict with their parents. Also, I work with parents who want to develop a more nurturing and supportive relationship with their children.

In our sessions, I create a warm, judgment-free space so you can feel physically and emotionally safe. Here, your sensitivity and feelings of being ‘too much’ are welcomed and embraced. I’ll encourage you to embody and express your authentic self. Meanwhile, I’ll also invite you to challenge any beliefs and narratives that no longer serve you. Together we’ll collaborate and begin crafting a new story for you. For clients who’re interested, I also enjoy integrating astrology, tarot, and oracle cards into our work to further your reflections, insights, and personal
growth.
