About Me

Hi! I’m Amara, a queer Black American trained as an EMDR therapist and my approach to therapy is grounded in a trauma-informed, multicultural, somatic, and anti-oppressive lens. I recognize distressing lived experiences such as chronic tension, avoidant behaviors, and brain fog as symptoms of carrying expectations and beliefs projected onto you by people in your environment. I’m here to support you in tuning into and rooting yourself in your emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical self.

My areas of focus include exploring intergenerational and chronic/complex trauma, life transitions, workplace stress, depression, anxiety, and relational concerns. Specifically, I support clients in exploring adverse parent-child dynamics. I work with adult children who experience or have experienced challenges navigating their relationship with their parents and I work with parents who want to develop a more nurturing and supportive relationship with their children.

In our sessions, I create a warm, judgment-free space where you feel physically and emotionally safe. I’ll encourage you to embody and express your authenticity and essence. At the same time, I’ll also invite you to challenge any outdated beliefs and narratives that no longer serve you. You are the author of your story. For clients who are interested, I also enjoy integrating astrology, tarot, and oracle cards into our work as complementary tools for reflection, insight, and personal growth.
